ASI Welcomes New Executive Director

Associated Students, Inc. at Sacramento State is proud to announce the hiring of Sandra Margarita Gallardo as the next ASI executive director. Sandra will begin her position with ASI on Monday, June 12th.

Most recently, Sandra was an assistant secretary of program and fiscal affairs at the California Health and Human Services Agency. Prior to that position, she served as oversight counsel to the late Senator Ted Kennedy on the U.S. Senate’s Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee in Washington, D.C.

Beginning in December, a nationwide search process was conducted to identify a new executive director after the announcement of the retirement of Patricia Worley, past ASI executive director. Chaired by ASI President Patrick K. Dorsey, the committee included a diverse array of members representing multiple campus constituencies.

The ASI Board of Directors approved Sandra’s appointment after she received high praise from members of the campus community, inclusive of President Robert S. Nelsen, Vice President Ed Mills, the ASI Management Work Team and the Employee Advisory Committee. Sandra stood out because of her deep appreciation for the transformative impact that ASI programs and services can have on Sac State students.

“I am very grateful for the work of the committee and the broad campus representation in the search and hiring process,” Patrick said. “Sandra’s belief in the transformative role of education and her passion for student mentorship make her the ideal candidate for this position. I believe that her personal story will resonate with many Sac State students.”

Sandra received her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government. She is a graduate of Occidental College in Los Angeles.

“I am thrilled to join ASI and the Sac State community,” Sandra says. “The ED Position provides an exciting opportunity to work with, and support, the student community. As a daughter of immigrants, I understand the need to have a diverse array of services and programs available to keep all students engaged and active in the university experience. I am excited at what awaits and look forward to working with the campus community to promote ASI’s mission.”

Please join the ASI Board of Directors in welcoming Sandra to the Sac State community. We are delighted that she is joining the hornet family.
