ASI looks to update Articles of Incorporation

Associated Students, Inc. (ASI)  Articles of Incorporation need to be revised, but why and how will it affect you and ASI?

Last May, the Board of Trustees of the California State University (CSU) system approved a revision to the Education Code, which delegated a specific authority to the CSU Chancellor on behalf of the Board of Trustees.

This delegation will now allow the CSU Chancellor and president of Sacramento State to approve where ASI’s “assets” (equipment, furniture, buildings, money, etc.) will be directed should ASI completely close down.  You can be assured that right now ASI has no desire or intention to stop providing the many programs and services they currently operate, e.g. the Aquatic Center, Peak Adventures, Children’s Center, KSSU, Safe Rides, etc.  But if there does come a time when this would happen, the proper individuals who have authority  need to be in place.

The ASI Articles of Incorporation is the document that officially states how this process would happen should ASI close down.  This change simply moves the authority from the Board of Trustees to the Chancellor.  Since we must meet the requirements in the Education Code and our Bylaws require our members (Sac State students) to approve changes to our Articles, we need your vote of approval to make this change.

The good news is that these changes will not have any significant impact on how ASI operates and our ability to continue to provide our services to you!

A “Yes” vote will make this change in the Articles of Incorporation.

A “No” vote will keep the current Articles of Incorporation.

You can review the proposed changes to the Articles that will appear on the  Spring 2013 Election Ballot.  Anyone who wants to submit statements for or against the proposal must submit their statement to ASIElection@csus.edu from a valid Saclink account no later than 4 p.m. on April 2, 2013.

On APRIL 5, ASI sends out an e-mail “Happy April” which includes a notice of changes to the Articles of Incorporation. When you click on the link within the e-mail it says “deadline to submit statement for or against the proposal must be submitted NO LATER THAN APRIL 2 ” !!! Come on ASI….Really?!
