With the largest voter turnout since 2004, the student body elected Nielsen Gabriel as their 2013-2014 ASI President. Students embraced the slogan “Your Voice Matters,” as over 3,780 students cast their votes.
200 students, candidates, and families packed into the University Redwood Room to hear the election results read. KSSU Radio provided music, and a slideshow featured images of the candidates campaigning. President Monica Cortez took the stage around 8:30pm to read the results. She began by announcing that Alpha Phi Omega-Kappa Sigma took the top spot in the ASI Election Challenge. In 2nd and 3rd place were the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and the Ski and Snowboard Club.
The amendment to the ASI Articles of Incorporation passed with 70.05%. The smoke-free initiative survey found 71.98% of the voters interested in making Sac State a “Smoke Free” campus. 71.33% of those students felt that the campus should be both “Smoke and Tobacco free.”
The student body voted in Ashley Cliver and De’Anthony D. Jones to the State Hornet Publications Board.
