We oftentimes take the little things for granted, even though we would definitely be at a loss without them. On a campus where food and housing insecurity is prevalent, many of us are privileged to have our basic needs met. One thing we are lucky to have but frequently take for granted are shoes.
Shoes are crucial to our health in ways that we often forget, especially in extreme weather. Shoes protect us from burning our feet when the ground is hot in the summer. They keep our socks dry and comfortable when it rains, and retain heat when it’s cold outside. They protect us while we walk the world!
Even with all of that in mind, it is easy to forget how lucky we are to have shoes. Remembering that there are people out there, possibly just around the corner, who do not have adequate shoes to keep them safe can put that into perspective for all of us.
That is why ASI is having a Shoe Drive. ASI will be partnering with Shoes4Sacramento to collect new and gently used shoes. If you are interested in donating shoes, you can find drop off bins at the following locations:
- ASI Hot Spot
- ASI Children’s Center
- Multi-Cultural Center
- Women’s Resource Center
- PRIDE Center
- Serna Center
- Residence Halls (Desmond and Sierra)
The Shoe Drive is taking place from February 4 to February 15.
