Where Are They Now? ASI Alumni #5

Posted by & filed under Campus Life, News.

Every year ASI hires 300 great Sac State students to work in the various departments and programs. Each of these students bring unique experiences to the work they do and these employment opportunities often supplement the content that they are learning in the classroom. Throughout the year we will highlight some of these former employees and what they are currently doing after graduation.

IN THIS ISSUE:  Sarah Couch, Leo Sun, & Bijan Mirfakhrai

HOW DID WORKING FOR ASI HELP YOUR CAREER GOALS?

ASI helped me find my voice and showed me that I had something of value to share with the world. My time in ASI transformed me from a quiet, shy girl to a confident young woman who took on complicated and challenging issues with ease, skills that I now use on a daily basis in the legislature.

ONE THING YOU MISS ABOUT SAC STATE?

The people. There are so many amazing staff on the campus that were always willing to help and provide a lending hand. I felt like I had mentors all over the campus that wanted me to succeed.

Be authentic. Be genuine. Be passionate.

HOW DID WORKING FOR ASI HELP YOUR CAREER GOALS?

I got to see firsthand the type of dedication and integrity that the Board had. The student government worked tirelessly for their student population and this display of passion definitely reaffirmed my belief that Student Affairs was the right career path for me.

ONE THING YOU MISS ABOUT SAC STATE?

Well I’m still technically working here for the school, but I miss seeing all the friendly faces of my former classmates, colleagues, coworkers, and friends on a daily basis.

Do somethin’ crazy! No, I’m not reciting lyrics from that “I Love College” song. Do something that you’ve never done before, whether it’s on-campus or off-campus. College is the time for you to experiment and grow!

HOW DID WORKING FOR ASI HELP YOUR CAREER GOALS?

Everything I learned working in an accounting capacity with ASI acted a foundation that I could build off of to further my career in acct. You are able to see processes from beginning to end which help give a comprehensive understanding and enables you to start thinking more critically to problem solve.

ONE THING YOU MISS ABOUT SAC STATE?

Not working 40+ hours a week. Take advantage of all the extra curricular activities. Whether it be intramurals, sporting events, job fairs, etc. It’s not all about your grades.

Learn all you can, but have fun too. Employers want to see what you bring to the table. This includes a personality. Try to be more than one dimensional.
